Obituary of Martha Ellen Fetty
Martha Ellen (Tennant) Fetty, 95, passed from this life to return to her Heavenly Father on January 8, 2024, peacefully in the home which she had made with her daughter Sharon, having her family around her.
Martha was born on August 20, 1928, at States Fork, Marion County, WV. She was the youngest of 5 children born to the late Benjamin Harrison Tennant and Alice Evelyn (Rice) Tennant. Her siblings were Lester Zimary (Lyda) Tennant, Herbert Carl (Betty) Tennant Sr., Fern Tennant (Willis) Heldreth, and James William (Nellie Raye) Tennant, of which she was the last of her generation.
She married Russell Franklin Fetty on December 18, 1948, and had 6 children, Evelyn LaRene (Lynn) Rector, Fern Renee (Gregory) Straub, Sharon Louise (Donald) VanGilder, Charles Russell (Jill) Fetty, Thomas Jeffery (Patti) Fetty, Mary Kathleen "Katy" (Gary) Shreve. She had 27 grandchildren, Benjamin (Susan) Rector, Matthew (Marian) Rector, Russell (Cara) Rector, Nathan (Lisa) Rector, Adam (Miriam) Straub, Travis (Maura Jacob) Straub, Timothy (Jenniver) VanGilder, Valery (Chad) Morris, Heather (Dewight) Jackson, Amber (Paul) Miller, Melanie (Peter) Lieber, Russell (Elisabeth) Fetty, Nicholas (Abrecia) Fetty, Marcus Fetty, Rachel (Anthony) Edwards, Thomas (Laura) Fetty, Shawn Baker, Tammy Baker, Garrett Shreve, Erin Shreve, Kyle Shreve, Zachary (Brandi) Shreve, Jeremy Shreve, Alyssa Shreve, Hunter Shreve, Bryce Shreve, Dakota Shreve; 47 Great-Grandchildren of which only one, Evan Richard Morris is deceased. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha did an excellent job of raising the children after Russell died in 1978 leaving her a widow at 49 to finish raising the younger of the children. She had to provide for her family and for a time, worked at the local Dairy Queen, Murray Trucking, and then got a job working as a custodian at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After she retired, she served a mission at the Washington Temple. She enjoyed her time there very much. Her faith in The Lord was very important to her and it showed in all she did in life. Martha enjoyed working on her genealogy and making picture albums to pass down to future generations. She wanted to make sure that they were properly labeled so those who came after would be better able to identify the different individuals.
Her mind was sharp to the end, and she did her daily Sudoku puzzles and watched Jeopardy. She watched the birds come to eat at her feeder. The funny part was that birds weren't the only ones to eat at the feeder, she had a wide variety of creatures that wanted to partake also. They included opossums, raccoons, rabbits, skunks, turkey, squirrels, and deer. She loved to watch and photograph them.
Martha will be missed by family and friends. The family would like to express appreciation to West Virginia Caring for their help in Mom's care in her final days.
