Obituary of Dennis Holmes
Dennis B. Holmes, 99, of Gladesville, left the bonds of his earthly life to join his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1912 in Gladesville, a son of the late Jeff and Mary Greathouse Holmes.
Dennis was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Gladesville. He was employed as an accountant or parts sales representative at local Ford dealerships for most of his working life. He spent most of his spare time helping family and friends with many construction projects. He was one of the founding organizers of the Gladesville Cemetery Association and their secretary and treasurer for many years. He also enjoyed playing the piano and the accordion. In his later years he spent countless hours researching the history of Gladesville and surrounding towns in Preston County. During that time he assisted others who were researching their family trees.
Surviving is one son , Ronald E. Holmes and wife Mary Ellen Kantes Holmes; one daughter Anna Catherine Holmes Mackley, all of Gladesville; two grandsons, Lewis Donald Mackley III and wife Kerri of Uniontown, PA. and Mark Allen Mackley and wife Karen; and one great granddaughter Madelyn Elissa Mackley also of Gladesville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Grace Hibbs Holmes in 1999; one son in law Lewis Donald Mackley Jr.; three brothers, Gay Holmes, Luther Holmes, and Theodore Holmes; two sisters, Hazel Sterling and Josephine Street; and one infant brother.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Thursday November 17, 2011 from 3 to 8 p.m. Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 with Pastor Ron Ford and Rev. Rotha Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Gladesville Cemetery.
