Obituary of Wayne Roth
Wayne E. Roth, 92, of Masontown, passed away Thursday February 18, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown.
He was born in Masontown, on January 18, 1918, a son of the late Arlie A. and Florence Cale Roth.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He co-owned and operated AA Roth and Sons in Masontown for over 50 years. He was a member of Masontown United Methodist Church, the Valley District Lions Club, an honorary board member of the Bruceton/Clear Mountain Bank, and a lifetime member of the Masontown VFW Post # 1589. He was a WW II combat veteran having served in the U.S. Army with the Company C 645th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was the oldest living WW II combat veteran in Preston County. In his earlier years he enjoyed extensive traveling with his family, and in his later years enjoyed his Myrtle Beach and Big Bear Lake trips with the Mann family.
He is survived by two daughters and spouses; Frances Roth DeLawder and husband Eugene of Martinsburg, and Janice Roth Snider and husband Robert of Kingwood; one granddaughter, Kaylan DeLawder of Tampa, FL; one sister, Glenna Roth King and husband William C. II of North Versailles, PA; one sister in law, Jessie Roth of Masontown; two nieces and spouses and their families; Sue King Benson and husband Earl of Buford, GA, and Barbara King Radakovich and husband Dave of Frisco, TX; five nephews and spouses and their families, Bill King and wife Jan of Slovakia, Lynn Roth and wife Betty of Jacksonville, FL, Bob Roth and wife Debra of Reedsville, Roger Roth of Masontown, and Pat Leggett and wife Kathy of Stanford, CN; and his caretakers and friends, Virginia and Rev. A.C. Mann, and the Mann family of Masontown.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Leggett Roth on January 20, 2005; one brother, Roy L. Roth, and an infant son.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home on Saturday February 20, 2010 from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday February 21, 2010 at the funeral home with the Rev. A.C. Mann officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard, Preston County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 977, and the WVANG Honor Guard.
