Notes: Bruce F. Thomas, Sr., 87, of Bretz, WV, passed away Friday, August 3, 2007 at his residence.
He was born on January 31, 1920 in Kingwood, WV, a son of the late Okey and Ethel Shears Thomas.
He is survived by his wife Edna Thomas of 61 years to whom he married August 3, 1946; two sons and spouses; Frank and Janet Thomas of Bretz and Gary and Faye Thomas of Jakes Run; two sisters; Madeline Ennis of Masontown and Pauline Shaffer of Windom, Ohio; one brother, Robert Thomas of Masontown; one sister-in-law, Vivian Thomas of Bretz; six grandchildren and spouses, Roger and Robin Tayman, Marshall and Jenny Boyles, Nick Chickerell, Mark and Penny Thomas, Jeremy and Jana Thomas and Luke Thomas; seven great-grand children, Logan, Levi, Dustin, Tiffany, Tabitha, Hunter and Joseph Peanut; two great-great grandchildren, David and Hunter and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers; Junior Okey Thomas, Harry Thomas, Alvie Thomas, Willard Thomas and an infant brother Georgie Thomas; an infant sister, Virginia Thomas and one grandson, James Robert Bobby Chickerell.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as Sgt. and was a prisoner of war for 18 months. He was a coal miner having worked for Reliable Coal Company and Cascade Coal and Coke. He was a member of the UMWA, attended the Masontown Methodist Church, and was a member of the Masontown VFW Post #1589.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home on Sunday, August 5, 2007 from 5-9 p.m. and on Monday, August 6, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held on 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Joyce E. Dye officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Masontown, WV. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard.
