Obituary of Fred Varner

Fred Elwood Varner, 83, of Kingwood, WV, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at his home. Fred was born in Masontown, WV, on September 28, 1925, a son of the late Everett B. and Pearl M. Lyton Varner. He was a Journeyman Iron Worker and a member of the Local Union #549. He also served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Cribbs Varner of Kingwood, three sons, Fred V. Varner and spouse Mary Ann of Kingwood, Gary L. Varner of Kingwood, and Robert E. Varner of Masontown; one step-daughter, Linda D. Haught of Morgantown; two step-sons, William Bash, of Akron, OH, Myron Bash, of Masontown, WV; two sisters, Kathlene Kelly of Washington, PA, Mildred Keller of Greensboro, PA; three brothers, William Varner of Claysville, PA, John Varner of Washington, PA, Glen Varner of Kingsport, TN; two grandsons and spouses, Aaron and Yvonne Varner of Tunnelton, WV, Matthew and Danielle Varner of Wasilla, AK, step-grandchildren, Brian and Michelle Bash; great-granddaughters, Deserai Louk, Hadley Varner, Lexie Varner, Morgan Varner, and great-grandson, Mason Varner, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anges Wanetta Crider Varner, one son, Fred Junior Varner, five brothers, Kenneth Varner, James Varner, Charles Varner, Patrick Varner, Mike Varner; one sister, Lulu Varner, and infant siblings, Bobbie Jo Varner, Edith and Ethel Varner. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 4 - 8 pm. Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the funeral home with the Pastor A.C. Mann officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Masontown, WV. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard, Preston County Chapter 977 Vietnam Veterans of America, and the West Virginia Army National Guard Camp Dawson.
