Obituary of John Menear
John Albert Menear, 76, of Masontown passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 in Morgantown.
He was born May 15, 1936 in Masontown, a son of the late Ethel McKinney Sanders and Albert Sylvester Menear.
John, better known as "Big John" for his athletic talents, graduated form Masontown High School in 1954 and served his country in the U.S. Army. After leaving the military he spent most of his career in the restaurant and hotel management business in Florida and West Virginia.
He is survived by an uncle, John McKinney of Masontown; an aunt, Betty Jane Ice of Grantown; a sister-in-law, Diana Sypolt and husband Harold of Bretz, WV and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean (Zinn) Menear, who passed away in January of 2012; a half brother, Gerald Fay Sanders; step-father, Albert Sanders all of Masontown; three brothers-in-law Ronald Zinn, Michael Zinn and Bradley Zinn and a sister-in-law Shirley Loranzo.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the entire staff of Golden Living Center for the care, concern and special attention that they gave John during his tenure with them and to Phil and Carolyn Turner for their love and support.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home Monday, July 16, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation services will follow.
