To The Hicks Family, I had been out of town (Ohio) and just returned to read this unbelievably tragic news. I just could not conceive that this could happen. Of course, I remember Kelby as a wonderful student. He most assuredly accomplished much in his thirty-one years. I am so sorry. With deep sympathy. Jan Bagby

My dear Rochelle, Ron, Anna and Courtlin, I am heartbroken for you. Your lovely Kelby will always have a fond place in my heart. I remember him as a little boy coming to me for speech, He was back then so curious, engaging, bright and full of beans. His spirit will live on in all our memories and I feel blessed to have met him. I was so glad to find out that he fell for a beautiful English girl - you know how I feel about the Brits. My prayers are with you all and especially with your dear Kelby. Much love, Tessa Chambers

Kelby was an awesome man that always had us laughing. He could tell a story like no other, and had some crazy ones! This is way too soon to talk about what a great guy he was...We always pictured him teaching somewhere and spreading his joy of the outdoors to others. Our hearts go out to Anna and his family, as well as all the friends that are better for knowing him. “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” ― Hunter S. Thompson
