Obituary of Roy Braddock
Roy Ray "Pap" Braddock, 87, of Masontown, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Independence on May 9, 1926, a son of the late Lily E. (Murphy) and John E. Braddock.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Roy worked as a coal miner for over 40 years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
"Old Pap" enjoyed life and everyone that he came in contact with. He showed his love to family and friends by "picking on or harassing them".
It was the simple pleasures of life that he enjoyed… spending time with the family at picnics, gatherings, and reunions --- he never missed a ballgame, bowling league or practice with his five great grandkids--- he loved sitting on the porch, visiting with friends, listening to those old time country classics and mowing the grass a couple of times a week.
Two favorite daily pastimes were ringing the dinner bell at the Masontown Senior Center luncheons and having coffee with Mark and "Goat" at the Dairy Queen where he was known as "Elroy".
Roy is survived by a daughter, Terri Funk of Kingwood; two grandsons, Mitch Funk and wife Melody and Ricky Funk and wife Tanya; five great grandchildren, Shonna, Shaniah, Kyle, Buggy and Cody and one sister, Edna Sisler of Independence.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary J. (Nutter) Braddock; five sisters and three brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Roy's honor to Valley District Youth Baseball, PO Box 133 Reedsville, WV 26547.
