Obituary of Mary Carder

Mary Jane Carder, 92, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Heartland of Preston County in Kingwood. She was born in Crellin, MD, on December 26, 1921, a daughter of the late Myrtle (Nose) and John McCabe. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked for many years at the WVU Mountain Lair. She was a Baptist by faith. Mary Jane is survived by one daughter, Delores Riggs and husband Paul of Rowlesburg; one son, Johnny Edward Shaffer of Reedsville; one sister, Catherine Lucille Sines of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Vicki Shaffer of Morgantown and Peggy Shaffer Bailey of Masontown; one great granddaughter, Johnna Bailey of Reedsville and a special friend, Diana Barnett of Morgantown. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Carder; her former husband, John H. Shaffer; and one brother Frank McCabe. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary Jane's caregiver, Amanda Mefford of Morgantown, Heartland of Preston County and Hospice Care Corp. for the care she received. Inurnment will be held at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown at a later date. To honor Mary's wishes cremation services will be provided by Field Funeral Home in Masontown.
