Obituary of Richard Merle Jenkins

Richard Merle Jenkins, 79, of Terra Alta, WV, formerly of Clarksburg, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Hopemont State Hospital in Terra Alta.

He was born in Clarksburg, WV on November 30, 1943, a son of the late Orval Lester and Evelyn Loraine (Marshall) Jenkins.

Richard was a longtime resident at Hopemont State Hospital and was loved by the staff and residents alike. He was protestant by faith and very religious. Richard was an excellent singer; his favorite music was gospel. He loved to sing and dance at the resident talent shows. Richard was the perfect gentleman, always holding doors for the ladies, very mannerly, and concerned about others. He liked to cut his own hair and was always neat and orderly in appearance as well as with his belongings. Richard will be greatly missed by the staff and his friends at Hopemont Hospital.

A graveside service for Richard will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Masontown, WV on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 10:00 am with Pastor Sam Moon Officiating. Field Funeral Home is honored to serve Richard.
