Obituary of Patricia Louise Fussell
Patricia Louise Miller Fussell, often referred to as "Miss Patty," quietly departed on December 13, 2023, in the presence of her beloved family. She was born on June 3, 1950, in Frametown, West Virginia, to her parents, Lenora Mae McCumbers Miller and Lewis Thomas Miller. Patricia was the youngest among her four elder brothers, Blaine, Steve, Ronnie, and Dean.
In 1975, Patricia wedded Jerry Richard Fussell, whom she really cherished, and they embarked on a remarkable life together, spanning 35 years. The couple was fortunate to have three exceptional daughters: Jacqueline (Nicole), Rosalyn, and Rebecca.
Jacqueline lives in South Carolina with her twin boys, Ben and Zach, whom Patricia really admired. Rosalyn and her husband Ray, along with their kids Kemyah and Kaiyan, established their residence in California. Rebecca, the youngest daughter of Patricia, resides in Arthurdale with her boyfriend, Nathan Plum, and their son, Alan Reed.
Patricia's life was characterized by her steadfast devotion to her community and her unwavering dedication to education. With an extraordinary tenure of 27 years, she dedicated her service to the Braxton County Board of Education, assuming diverse positions throughout many schools and having an enduring influence on numerous individuals. The social worker's ardor for instructing and fostering the development of young intellects was apparent in all her endeavors, and her impact as an educator will endure through the many pupils she motivated.
Patricia, a committed member of Hope Baptist Church for three decades, derived comfort and resilience from her unwavering faith, which she imparted to her loved ones and acquaintances. The church community provided her with unwavering support and affection throughout every stage of her life. Renowned for her flawless fashion sense, Patricia always adorned herself with coordinated footwear and jewelry, infusing every event with a hint of sophistication. Her favorite color was orange, which was as vibrant as her personality. She also had a particular affinity for collecting chicken figurines, each one with its narrative and treasured memory.
Perhaps one of Patricia's most endearing qualities was her boundless optimism. She had a habit of referring to things as terrific, and when asked how she was doing or how her day was going, her response was always, terrific! This positive outlook on life was contagious and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Patricia exhibited limitless compassion and charity. She managed a garment closet and food pantry for those facing hardship, exemplifying the virtues of benevolence and altruism. She had a profound affection for the ocean, valued family road vacations, and exhibited a unique knack for discovering hidden gems when thrift shopping. The hue she favored, orange, mirrored her lively attitude and enthusiasm for life.
Patricia's husband, Jerry, and her brother, Blaine, passed away before her. Her legacy encompasses compassion, generosity, and a lasting influence on those fortunate enough to have known her. As we commemorate the life of Patricia Louise Fussell, let us honor her as a committed spouse, an affectionate parent, a committed social worker, and a treasured companion. We will always remember her, and her reputation for kindness and giving will serve as a lasting source of inspiration for everyone. A commemorative ceremony honoring Patricia's life will be held at a later date and time, as her wishes were to have her ashes spread out across Lake Erie in the same location as her husband, Jerry. We will kindly invite you to commemorate her legacy and exchange anecdotes about the extraordinary lady we had the opportunity to acquaint ourselves with at the appropriate time.
Patricia Louise Fussell's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who brought joy, love, and terrific moments to everyone she met. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
